Before I start to tell you about some of the knots I know, I would like to acknowledge some of the many people who have taught me various knots over the years. First my mother for teaching me how to tie my shoe laces and to knit, Gordon Singh for teaching me the Constrictor Knot, Steven White for teaching me how to Splice Three Strand Rope, the Crown Splice and Eye Splice, his brother Eddie the Waggoners Hitch, Gary (Puffin Crusies) the Bowling Hitch or Bowline, Tony (Puffin Crusies) Anti-Galligan Hitch, Mark London the Double Figure Eight. These are just a few of all people who taught me specific knots. There is one other individual who I would like to pay a special thank you to. Fifteen years ago in 1988 we lived in the same house and you lent me your copy of The Ashley Book of Knots, sadly I cannot remember your name. However, I still have your book sitting in pride of place on my bookshelves, if you ever find this site and wish to claim your book back, please contact me via the contact page. | ||||

There are many many books about knots, most of which are specialist books written for particular hobbies or specific environments. However, there are three books that should be mentioned
due to the vast resouces they contain. Between them you will find that the majority of knots featured in specialist knot books are covered. |
