The Constrictor knot can be used to seal a variety of containers from jam pots to bags. In the example below it has been used to seal a post bag
The knot is a practical knot and is very good for the purpose of sealing the contents into a container.
The constrictor knot is related to the Bag, Sack and Miller Knots. All of which are used to seal
contents into containers that need to be opened, althought the constrictor knot harder to undo than the others. The contrictor knot was
used in quarries and other places where powder explosives are used. When this knot is pulled up tightly it is a very secure knot that will
not come undone or allow the contents of the bag to spill.
When this knot is pulled tight it clamps tightly onto both sides of the cord used and restricts any movement. It is this clamping onto itself
that gives this knot its name. Once tied the knot is very difficult to undo.
