Nylon is a high strength rope fibre often used for lifting or towing applications, thanks to its ability to turn back to its original length after being stretched. Furthermore, nylon rope can be stretched up to around 20% without losing any of its strength.
Nylon rope is also widely used in the marine industry, often as a mooring rope, as the fibre offers excellent abrasion resistance and resistance to UV rays, abrasion and rot. Our most popular nylon marine rope is Liros' 8 Strand Anchorplait Rope, available in sizes ranging from 8mm to 24mm.
How much weight can a nylon rope hold?
A standard 10mm three strand nylon rope can hold around 2,400kg before breaking. However, you must take into account that nylon rope absorbs water and will weaken when wet. Due to this, it may be worth considering polyester rope, as the rope fibre retains its high strength capabilities when wet.
