Manila Rope

Manila is a natural fibre rope made from the stems of a plant named Abaca, which is primarily grown in the capital city of the Philippines, Manila - hence the name! As manila is a natural fibre rope, it will shrink by up to 10% when wet, which needs to be taken into account when covering exact distances in applications such as sails, or when used as garden decking rope.

How to cut manila rope

The most efficient way of cutting manila rope is by using a hot knife, as this will melt the ends of the rope as it cuts, preventing the line from fraying and unravelling. Another great solution to prevent the ends of the rope fraying is to use duct tape or electrical tape, carefully overlapping several pieces.
