Whipping twine is used to reinforce the ends of the rope and also to help hold a splice together. Waxed whipping twine is more popular than unwaxed whipping twine, as it allows the twine to pass through the rope smoothly. Furthermore, the wax allows the completed whip to hold tight when you have completed it.
How to use whipping twine
Whipping twine often requires a needle. Once you have a needle, thread the whipping twine through the strands of the rope (typically around three times), and then gradually around the outside of the rope, until you reach the top of the rope.
